In this award-winning documentary, a difficult journey that begins in hopelessness and shame for thousands of women in Ethiopia ends in a productive new life. The film tells the personal stories of rural women who journey to Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, seeking treatment for obstetric fistula, a life-shattering complication of childbirth. "AWTB" won the prestigious IDA's Best Feature Documentary (2007) and the Emmy Award for News and Documentary: Outstanding Informational Programming, Long-form (2009). It also won a number of film festival awards worldwide and was theatrically realeased in NYC, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The one-hour version aired on primetime television as part of the NOVA science series on PBS. "AWTB" was part of a worldwide tipping point drawing attention to obstetric fistula through the Fistual Foundation with and the creation of the United Nations' Campaign to End Fistula.
